Patients may request to change the gender on their Medical Record at any time and do not need to have undergone any form of gender affirmation treatment in order to do so.
When a patient affirms their gender, the current process on NHS systems requires that they are given a new NHS number and must be registered as a new patient at their practice. All previous medical information relating to the patient needs to be transferred into a newly created Medical Record.
